On Turning 30

I think my favorite sun is winter sun It is unsuspecting to the receiver Especially in February (although not this particular, very sunny February) The coldest and grayest and longest (although really the shortest) month of the year My birthday month of 30 years! I welcome a new “age” A new era I do not long for younger days as some might I know where I went, what I did, who I was I have not forgotten where I’m from-and I am grateful I notice wrinkles on my brow and think of all world’s (my world’s) problems I’ve solved this year I notice my skin is a little dull and I am reminded of how much time I’ve spent admiring in equal amounts the sun and the rain (and the occasional snow) My middle is a little softer-it could be the doing of my new baby, and it is easy to blame babies for such things, but really, it is all the feasting I’ve done with warm and engaging company around tables and living rooms and our favorite restaurants I have loved it a...
